Make layered cake and ice

1) Make layered cake and ice

Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool two 6 in. cake layers. Level, fill and stack layers on cake plate for a 2-layer cake. Tint four portions of white icing in four shades of blue, from light to dark. Use spatula and lightest blue icing to ice top of cake smooth. Use lightest blue icing in a cut disposable decorating bag to pipe a 1 in. wide band on cake side, at top. Use the second lightest shade and a cut disposable decorating bag to pipe a band below the first. Continue piping bands with the second darkest and darkest shades (darkest around bottom).

Smooth icing

2) Smooth icing

Use spatula to smooth icing bands on side of cake.

Make waves

3) Make waves

Use spatula in an up and down motion to create wave texture on side of cake.

Make candy leaves

4) Make candy leaves

Reserve one green candy wafer. Melt remaining green Candy Melts candy in disposable decorating bag according to package directions. Cut small point off of end of bag. Tape parchment paper over leaf pattern. Use melted candy to outline leaf and center vein and then to fill in leaf with a zigzag motion. Invert a small bowl and place parchment paper holding leaf on the back side. Repeat to make five more leaves, turning pattern over for three of the leaves so they face in the opposite direction. Place all leaves on bowl and chill until firm, about 10 to 15 minutes. Carefully remove leaves from parchment paper and turn over. Use melted green candy to pipe another line over vein line to strengthen. Chill until firm, about 3 to 5 minutes.

Assemble leaves

5) Assemble leaves

Place reserved green candy wafer on parchment paper. Use melted green candy in cut disposable decorating bag to attach leaves to wafer. Chill until firm, about 10 to 15 minutes.

Make leaf base

6) Make leaf base

Use melted green candy to cover the end of pretzel rod, about 3/4 in. wide.

Attach leaves to pretzel rod tree

7) Attach leaves to pretzel rod tree

Position chilled, assembled leaves on pretzel base. Place tree in drinking glass to set. Chill until firm, about 3 to 5 minutes.

Make rope border

8) Make rope border

Tint 3 oz. white fondant brown. Divide in half. Roll each half into a log, each 20 in. long x 1/4 in. dia. Pinch two ends together. Twist logs together to form rope. Position rope around bottom rim of cake.

Assemble cake

9) Assemble cake

Sprinkle cake top and around bottom border with graham cracker "sand" crumbs. Position coins and candle on cake top. Insert pretzel tree.
