EEK Balloon Arch How To

Get all the details on making this boo-tiful wall decoration

Get your guests to say “boo-tiful” when they see this stunning focal point at your party. A balloon garland is a go-to decorative backdrop for good reason—it works for nearly any celebration theme because all you need are balloons in your party colors. In addition to the orange and black, add more Halloween spook to the balloon garland with spider webbing and letter balloons that spell a playful phrase like “eek”. Follow our guide for making a balloon garland that takes flight with a stylish take on fright.

How-To

Supplies:

  • 3 orange 12-inch balloons
  • 3 silver 12-inch balloons
  • 2 black polka dot 12-inch balloons
  • 4 black 5-inch balloons
  • 4 orange 5-inch balloons
  • 4 silver 5-inch balloons
  • Balloon arch decorating strip
  • Balloon pump
  • Spider webbing
  • Reusable wall hooks
  • Scissors

1) Cut balloon arch decorating strip

Take the balloon arch decorating strip and cut two pieces each measuring roughly 2 feet. Note: the decorating strip has pre-cut holes to insert the balloon knots.

2) Inflate large balloons

Use the balloon pump to inflate a 12-inch orange balloon. Tie the end into a knot. Continue to inflate the rest of the 12-inch balloons in orange, silver and polka dot.

3) Place the knot through the decorating strip

Take a balloon arch decorating strip and identify the fourth hole from the left end. Place the balloon knot into that hole. Set decorating strip aside.

4) Inflate the mini balloons

Inflate and tie off the black, silver and orange mini balloons.

5) Form clusters of mini balloons

Create a grouping of three mini balloons by first tying together the ends of balloons in black and orange; then tie a silver mini balloon to the group. Continue to create clusters of the mini balloons for a total of four balloon clusters each consisting of three mini balloons in different colors.

6) Add a silver balloon

Get the balloon arch decorating strip and add a silver 12-inch balloon about four holes away from where you placed the orange 12-inch balloon.

7) Add cluster of mini balloons onto the strip

Add a cluster of mini balloons on the strip; place the cluster four holes from the silver balloon.

8) Follow the pattern

After adding a mini balloon cluster, continue to add balloons to the balloon arch strip following this pattern: black polka dot balloon, mini balloon cluster, and silver balloon. Space the placement of each balloon four holes apart on the balloon strip.

9) Add balloons on second balloon arch decorating strip

Take the other balloon arch decorating strip and add balloons following this pattern from left to right: orange balloon, mini balloon cluster, black polka dot balloon, mini balloon cluster, orange balloon and silver balloon. Remember to place each balloon four holes apart along the strip.

10) Hang the balloon garland on the wall

Place a reusable hook on the wall. Place the end of the balloon arch decorating strip onto the hook. Hang the opposite end of the balloon arch decorating strip with another reusable wall hook. This strip will hang as a straight horizontal line along the wall.

11) Add the second balloon decorating strip

Take the other balloon arch decorating strip and place the end with the single orange balloon slightly above the silver balloon of the horizontal decorating strip. Secure the second strip with reusable wall hooks, and then hang the second strip along the wall a slight angle. Secure the end with another reusable wall hook.

12) Add spider webbing

Stretch the spider webbing on the black polka dot balloons and the black mini balloons.

13) Finish with “eek!”

Add letter balloons that spell out a playful phrase and sprinkle spider figures throughout the webbing on the wall!
