Modern Halloween Polka Dot Cake How To

How-To

Ingredients:

  • Favorite cake recipe or mix (6 cups batter needed)
  • Creamy Ready-To-Use White Decorator Icing
  • Black Sixlets® candies*
  • Orange striped candy sticks

Supplies:

  • 6 in. x 3 in. round cake pan
  • Cooling grid
  • Serrated knife
  • 11 in. angled spatula
  • 8 in. cake circles
  • Pennant cutouts
  • Orange and white construction paper
  • Pencil
  • Food-safe scissors
  • Black marker
  • Dental floss
  • Double-sided cellophane tape

1) Make layered cake

Prepare batter following recipe directions. Prepare 6 cups batter in round cake layers.

2) Make banner

Use pencil to draw a diamond pattern on construction paper. Cut out diamond and fold to create a pennant shape. Cut one pennant shape for each letter. Use marker to print letters on pennants. Tape to candy sticks.

3) Decorate cake

Insert candy sticks in cake top, about 3 in. apart, angling candy sticks outward at top. Cut a string of dental floss, about 15 in. long. Tie dental floss to candy sticks. Use double-sided tape to attach pennants to floss, positioning at fold.
