Make Your Party 10x Cuter with a DIY Stacked Balloon Centerpiece

DIY Stacked Balloon Centerpiece

This DIY balloon centerpiece meets the party planning trifecta: it’s adorable, affordable, and totally achievable. We created this one for an LOL Surprise birthday party, but it’s easy to mix and match the balloons to suit any party theme. Set up this balloon centerpiece on every table at a large theme party, or use it as a focal point for a cake or gift table at a kids’ birthday party.

If you're new to balloon decorating, don't fret: we're going to show you how, step by step.

What you'll need:

  • Round foil balloon (Choose one to match your theme)
  • 5” mini balloon
  • 9” polka dot balloons, 4 total
  • 9” balloons in desired color, 4 total
  • Curling ribbon and scissors
  • Handheld balloon pump
Step 1: Create a balloon weight

Step 1: Create balloon weight

Fill a mini balloon with water and tie off to create a weight for your balloon centerpiece.

Step 2: Polka dot balloons

Step 2: Inflate polka dot balloons

Use a balloon pump to inflate four polka dot balloons with air. If you have trouble tying the ends, try using a balloon tying tool to save yourself the trouble (and the finger pain). Make sure you inflate each balloon to a uniform size.

Step 3: Tie together

Step 3: Tie together

Tie the ends of two polka dot balloons together. You’ll need two of these pairs.

Step 4: Balloon flower

Step 4: Balloon flower

Criss-cross the ends of these balloon pairs to create a flower shape.

Cut roughly six inches of curling ribbon. Tie a knot around the end of your water-filled mini balloon weight. Attach the remaining length of ribbon around the intersecting point of the criss-crossed balloon pairs.

Step 5: Solid color balloons

Step 5: Solid color balloons

Inflate your solid color balloons to a uniform size, slightly smaller than your polka dot balloons.

Use the criss-cross flower technique to create another layer. Tie this bunch to the polka dot layer below using another piece of curling ribbon.

Step 6: Add round balloon

Step 6: Add round balloon

Inflate a round foil balloon with air. Tie ribbon to the bottom and connect it to the purple layer below.

Make sure the ribbon is tied tightly enough to keep it upright, and tied at the center so it sits evenly at the top of the centerpiece.

Step 7: Curling ribbon

Step 7: Curling ribbon

Cut long strands of curling ribbon and use the edge of your scissors to curl it into springs. Place these curled ribbons around your solid color balloons to cover any empty spots and make it extra cute
