My son really wanted to be Jawa and this was one of the only available. Just like the other two Star Wars costumes that I have purchased, this one was made with the thinnest of fabrics and very weak Velcro strips. The hood was wide and eyes were not exactly as shown, so it looked more like a tree frog than a Jawa. My son is a thin size 10. We should have purchased the 12-14 size, as it was not very long. He begged me to not have him trick-or-treat due to the costume, but we had a large Star Wars group going. Of course he had fun once he forgot about how he looked.
Broken within minutes
Ordered the Star Wars Jawa costume online. Got it out of the package. Lights worked and within a few minutes they didn't and no way to fix them. My son was so sad...I had to research how to make Jawa eyes and make a trip to Radio Shack, spend $20 and make my own lights Halloween day. Ridiculous and expensive.
My son loved the costume. The eyes did work and he used them all night long. Wish the utility belts were sewed on, but they did remain attached all night long despite all the running and jumping that an 8 year old does.
We purchased this costume for our son and when it arrived the eyes didn't light and wires were disconnected inside the plastic. We didn't have time to send it back and get a replacement so my husband had to fix it. My son also complained about how it was so hard to see through the plastic. Not impressed for the price!
Perfect When You Want a Disappointed 4-Year-Old
Thank you, Party City, for your reminder about reviewing this product. I was so busy working on my demand letter to your company, I had forgotten about this important step!
Also, thank you for your example review title of "Best Purchase Ever!" You'll understand that I decided to go my own way.
If you'r;e looking to disappoint your 4-year-old for Halloween, this is the perfect costume! The picture shows a bandolier that clearly drapes over the shoulders and presumably stays on the costume without safety pins, but instead this costume comes with cheap foam that velcroes to the cheap polyester and falls off when the child moves. Much better!
The picture also shows glowing eyes, but don't worry -- the switch will have been tripped at some point back in the factory, so the battery will have run down by the time you get the costume! Luckily, it's online only, so you won't have to worry about the option of being able to quickly exchange it. Also luckily, the battery is not replaceable, so you won't have to worry about any last-minute saves on that account.
In all seriousness, I'm giving this costume 2 stars because my son loves Star Wars and we WERE able to make the costume work for Halloween. However, the only way we salvaged it was by going to Publix and purchasing some of those finger lights -- you know, the ones with the colored lights and the filaments? We then took out the filaments and glued the lights to the mask to create the "glowing eyes." They are in a completely nonsensical place, but my 4-year-old was excited once we were able to rig it up. If you buy this costume and end up having the same problem (which, if you read the reviews prior to purchasing as I should've done, both here and on Amazon, you'll see that a LOT of people do), consider those finger lights and some super glue as a possible solution.
Costume was true to size, made well, and was a hit with my
Costume was true to size, made well, and was a hit with my son. The only issue he had was that the hood/mask had no where to sit on his face and hung low on his head.
Just got it in the mail,The battery in the mask is dead and can't be replaced, was going to have it replaced but it"s out of stock in his size.It did fit true to size.
