Be sure to check out these great tips for party etiquette that will keep your next big birthday a-do from becoming a big birthday a-don't!
| Do's |
DO plan a party that your child will enjoy. Sounds like a no-brainer, but it's important to create a party that takes into consideration your child's interests and personality. Try not to plan an event that is too overwhelming, for example, if your child is shy or reserved. The sky's the limit and you can even choose from Party City's 20 Complete Birthday Parties, but the best way to find out exactly what your child would love - is to ask!
DO let the Birthday Boy or Girl help with the party planning. Even if he or she is too young to do the heavy lifting, be sure to include them by letting them choose the paper goods or help decorate! Even putting the stamps on the invitations is a simple way of making them feel involved and important. After all, your child is the guest of honor!
DO get off to a good start! Teach good manners by requesting that your child meet and greet each guest at the door as they arrive. At the very least, have your child greet each guest where the others are gathering for the party fun and be sure to set that guideline with the Birthday Boy or Girl before the party starts!

| Dont's |
DON'T go on and on. All good things must come to an end, and your child's birthday party is no exception. Keep toddler activities short and sweet - no longer than 1 - 1 1/2 hours. Older children's events can include 2 - 2 1/2 hour activities. When it comes to the guest list, some party planners suggest inviting the same number of guests as your birthday child's age.
DON'T forget the thank-you notes! Even if your child is too young to write, like the invitations, be sure to include your child in expressing thanks and appreciation to the party guests. Let even your youngest child scribble or doodle his or her "name" at the bottom of the card. It's never too early to teach your child to be thankful!
