Disney Princess Balloon Towers DIY

Enchant with castle towers made of balloons!

Create these easy-to-make balloon towers faster than your fairy godmother can say "bibbidi boppidi boo!" A couple packages of balloons, ribbon, wrapping paper and a balloon pump are all you need.

How-To

Level Medium
Princess Castle Balloon Column
Supplies:
  • 28 light pink latex balloons
  • 4 hot pink latex balloons
  • 1 Disney Princess balloon
  • Magenta curling ribbon
  • Purple gift wrap
  • Balloon pump
  • Scissors
  • Pen
  • Tape
Follow Instructions
1) Tie balloons
Begin by inflating your first pink balloon. We recommend using a hand pump because you'll be inflating lots of balloons. (Helium is not recommended because the tower needs to stay grounded.) Knot the tail of the balloon after inflating.
2) Tie 2 balloons together
Inflate a second balloon and tie it onto the first to make a pair.
3) Tie pairs together
Repeat Steps 1 & 2 to make a second pair of balloons. Take the two pairs and cross them in the middle. Twist them together to make a cluster of four. Make sure the balloons in each layer are uniform in size so the tower will look even.
4) Cut a strand of ribbon
Cut a long strand of ribbon that will connect the balloons together. (For our 8-layer tower, we needed 92in of ribbon.) Tie one end of the curling ribbon around the center of the first layer of balloons — this is the bottom of the tower. Make six more clusters of light pink balloons, fitting them snugly on top of each other and running the length of ribbon through the center.
5) Measure the tower
Tie a cluster of hot pink balloons to the top as the final layer. Now to measure your tower spire! With a separate piece of ribbon, hold one end in the center of the balloon column and measure to the edge of one of the balloons. Snip off this length of ribbon — you've got your measurement for the next step!
6) Mark a circle
Roll out the purple gift wrap so the underside is facing up. In one hand, hold one end of the ribbon you've just measured against the paper. With your free hand, hold a pen while stretching the other end of the ribbon until it is taut. Put pen to paper while walking in a circle until you've drawn a complete circle on the paper. Cut out your circle.
7) Cut out the tower spire
Once you've cut your circle out, cut a slit from one circle edge into the center of the circle. This will make it easier to roll the paper into a cone shape in the next step.
8) Roll into a cone shape
To form the tower spire, start sliding one edge of the slit you made in the circle under the other. Keep sliding the paper until it forms a cone. Once you make the desired shape, tape both the exposed and hidden cone edges to hold them in place.
9) Attach the tower spire
Grab the length of the ribbon from the top of the balloon tower and run it through the center of the cone spire you've just made. You're almost done!
10) Top off the tower
Inflate a heart-shaped, helium-filled Disney Princess foil balloon and tie to the top of the tower with the strand of ribbon extending from the point of the cone.
11) Happily ever after!
Impress your princesses even more by making more than one balloon tower — just double the balloons from the supplies list and repeat the steps. Add some trailing streamers to the topof a couple towers and place in front of a Disney Princess scene setter, or next to the front door for a royal entrance!
